Monday, October 20

10 a.m. – 8 p.m. | Banff Town Hall, 110 Bear Street

On Election Day, the voting station will open at 10 a.m. and will remain open until 8 p.m. When the voting station is declared closed at 8 p.m., any elector in the voting station who wishes to vote shall be permitted to do so, but no other person shall be allowed to enter the voting station.

Special Ballots 

Eligible voters may request a Special Ballot, if they are unable to vote at an advance vote or at the voting station on election day.

Special ballot applications will be available between Friday, August 1, 2025 and Friday, October 17, 2025. Special ballots will be mailed through Canada Post or available for pick up at Banff Town Hall as soon as possible after candidate nominations close (noon on September 20 if there are enough candidates for all vacant positions). If you apply to vote by special ballot in this election, it is your responsibility to return your completed ballot to the Town of Banff by 7:00 pm on election day, Monday, October 20, 2025. 

Voter eligibility

You are eligible to vote in the Town of Banff municipal election if you:

  • are at least 18 years old; 

  • are a Canadian citizen; and

  • live in Alberta and your place of residence is in the Town of Banff on Election Day (October 20, 2025). 

Register to vote

Voter identification requirements

Voter identification is required by all voters. Identification must prove a voter’s identity and address. 

  1. Registered voters are required to show valid government issued identification containing, at minimum, the voter’s photograph and name. This identification must be issued by a Canadian government, whether federal, provincial or local, or an agency of that government. For example, a driver’s license, an Alberta ID card, or a Canadian Passport. 

  2. Non-Registered voters are required to complete Form 13 Electors Register at the voting station and provide: 

One piece of identification issued by a Canadian government, whether federal, provincial or local, or an agency of that government, that contains a photograph of the person, the person’s name and the address of the person’s residence.

OR

One piece of identification authorized by the Chief Electoral Officer that contains the person’s name and current address. A full list of identification authorized by the Chief Electoral Officer is available here.

OR

One piece of identification authorized by the Chief Electoral Officer that contains the person’s name and an eligible voter to vouch, who meets requirements below and completes Form 14 Statement of Voucher.

If You Do Not Have Photo ID and/or Changed Your Address

If you are a non-registered voter unable to produce government issued photo identification or your address has recently changed, you'll be required to provide two pieces of Valid ID. One piece of Valid ID with your name, along with a second piece of Valid ID that confirms your name and lists your current address. 

If You Have No Identification With Your Current Address

Those unable to produce identification with their current address may have a registered voter vouch for them. 

To make your voting experience faster, you are encouraged to ensure your identification is correct and up-to-date, and to register in advance for the Town of Banff’s Permanent Electors Register.

Forms of acceptable ID

The following documents are acceptable forms of identification (ID) at a voting station if they include your name and current address. For the official list of valid identification, please visit the Elections Alberta ID Requirements website

Government-issued documents

  • Alberta driver’s licence or ID card

  • AISH card

  • Alberta Natural Resources (Conservation) card

  • Alberta Wildlife Identification Number (WIN) card

  • Canadian Forces identification card

  • Canadian pleasure craft operator card

  • CANPASS, FAST, or Nexus Card

  • CATSA Identification Card

  • Certificate of Indian Status Card

  • Firearm possession and acquisition (PAL) licence

  • First Nation Membership Card

  • Fishing, trapping, or hunting licence

  • Government cheque or cheque stub

  • Income/property tax assessment notice 

  • Letter from a public curator, public guardian or public trustee

  • Métis Nation of Alberta citizenship card

  • Métis Settlement membership card

  • Outdoors or wildlife card / licence

  • Statement of government benefits (e.g. employment insurance, old-age security, social assistance, disability support or child tax benefits)

  • Veterans Affairs Canada Healthcare Identification Card

  • Bank/credit card statement or personal cheque

  • Insurance policy or coverage card

  • Pension Plan statement of benefits, contributions or participation

  • Residential lease or mortgage statement

  • Utility bill (e.g. telephone, public utilities commission, television, hydro (electric), gas or water)

  • Vehicle ownership, registration or insurance certificate

  • Any other piece of identification authorized by the Chief Electoral Officer that contains both name and address
